Senioritis is a disease that only affects seniors

Senioritis.

A common disease that seniors in high school get diagnosed with that seems to last the whole year. Personally, I believe that senioritis can get frustrating due to its ability to create irresponsibility and immaturity.

Being a senior myself, I can’t blame those around me that get caught up in the upperclass life of having more freedom than the fishes, s’mores and junior mints. Although we are seniors, for goodness sake, we actually have the ability to get work done and show the lowerclassmen how to be successful in high school. This is true although even though to some, it may be hard not to have side effects such as skipping class, “too-cool-for-you” attitude and feeling the inability to care about doing work.

The idea that sophomores and juniors believe they can get senioritis is amusing to me. You don’t know senioritis until you actually become a senior, when you have the knowledge that you are graduating in a few months. I believe that when you have this knowledge, it is easy to just not care enough to put in effort. When underclassmen claim they are suffering from this, it is just showing you think you’re smarter than the people around you. Some may call this “pre-senioritis.” This can be very common as well, and not until you are a part of the graduating class will you realize that it is more entertaining than anything. The truth is, is that all seniors eventually come to the realization that all those years of “senioritis” were not true until senior year had actually arrived.

How do you recover? The most common and effective way is to realize that high school only happens once, so try to enjoy and make the best of it. The best way to not be pulled into senioritis is to stay focused on your work and know that whatever you do now will affect your future.
