Mixed Doubles Q&A

When did you start playing together?

Sina: Since my host family is the McCarthys and I played tennis in Germany, Cameron and I were just hitting the ball around and thought we would be a good idea for a mixed doubles couple.

Cameron: Yeah, we started played together this year when she moved from Germany.

How did each of you get started playing tennis?

Sina: I started when I was six and I was just following what my brother did; in German school he first played hockey and so did I but then switched to tennis and continued to play in high school in Germany and in America.

Cameron: My mom loved to play and one day she took me out with her, and I was pretty good and grew to love it.

What was a good bonding moment for the two of you?

Sina: [In the fall] we were undefeated, and tried really hard to win everything. It is our dream to go to state and we hope to get there this year.

Cameron: That was a really good bonding moment for us, we got to know each other pretty fast.

How do you feel about having the best chance at winning district? Confident? Concerned?

Sina:  Oh, definitely confident, we have practiced a lot this year.

Cameron: I’m actually a little concerned because I know that I’m cocky and I don’t really know for sure if we will win because anything can happen.

Do you want to continue in tennis after high school?

Sina: I want to but I still would have to go back to Germany and then maybe come back and get a scholarship for a university.

Cameron: I want to play in college, but I don’t have a specific school, just any one that will give me a scholarship.

Were you assigned to each other or did you pick?

Sina: Coach [Michael] Hjort asked everyone to write down  on a piece of paper who they wanted to be paired with, but we all talked about it and thought that me and Cameron would be good together and Cameron’s  parents though it would  be positive for the team.

Cameron: We were sort of assigned together, like she said and I liked the idea because Sina is really good.

What is one thing about the other person that makes them a great tennis partner?

Sina: Cameron supports me, it doesn’t matter if I’m having a good day or a bad day he just tells me to keep my chin up and we will win or lose together.

Cameron: Sina can hit the ball awesome and I love that she can talk in German at the other team and we won’t get a point penalty.

Do you prefer doubles over singles?

Sina: Singles is different, is it more my tennis, but doubles is good because you can share experiences and I like being on a team, so yeah, I like doubles better.

Cameron: I like doubles too because you can peg the people.

What is something not commonly known about your partner?

Sina: Cameron has a lot of self-confidence, and I think that that helps his tennis game.

Cameron: Sina can be meaner than she looks, but she can ride motocross and I think that’s cool since I ride too.
