Two swimmers placed in the top six at the state meet, Feb. 24-25 at the University of Texas. Three girls and two relays qualified for state and the team placed 10th overall.
“This was our first year with a full team and we were very successful,” coach Marlene Blanchett said. “We’re looking forward to next year and having more upperclassmen and just getting stronger and stronger each year.
At the meet, senior Mackenzie Alspaugh placed fourth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 100 back. Sophomore Amanda Alspaugh placed sixth in the 500 freestyle. Junior Jyna Leckbee placed 10th in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 freestyle relay placed ninth and the 400 freestyle relay finished 10th.
“I think state went really well overall,” Mackenzie said. “We had a few setbacks during prelims, but we rose above them in finals and proved what we are capable of.”
