Teachers can go casual for a week by participating in the 7th annual Jeans for a Week fundraiser, March 5-9. The fundraiser is held across the district for the Make-A-Wish Foundation with proceeds helping grant the wish of Wiley Middle School sixth grader Cristian Rojas who has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
For a $5 donation, teachers and staff will be able to wear the jeans the entire week before spring break. Checks should be made out to Make-A-Wish and should be given to Debbie Gauna, the Coordinator of Data Assessment for Secondary Schools. Teachers will receive a sticker to wear on their badge and a receipt for their tax records.
“Kids with life-threatening diseases spend so much time in the hospital getting poked and prodded,” Gauna said. “This gives them an opportunity to be able to get a break from that and just have some fun with their families.”
Last year, the district raised more than $9000 for two Make-A-Wish recipients, including for then-sophomore Samantha Yantz who was able to go Disney with her family in July.
