Select Basketball

Peck has been playing select basketball since she was in fourth grade, using it as an opportunity to improve her school play.

“I played with the majority for the varsity girls over summer,” she said. “And it kept me in shape for tryouts for the upcoming season.”

The sophomore is currently on the team AD Elite with only two other girls from the school.

“This summer we’re going to Rome and several places around Europe for tournaments,” Peck said. “We’re also playing at Disney World in Florida.”

She hopes to use this experience to help her play at the college level.

“[Playing out of state] helps give you exposure to the pace of other teams and more college coaches can watch you,” she said. “I would like to get a scholarship for college and play for as long as I can.”

Sarah Goodfellow, 12
Club Flag Football

Spring is an important part of some girl athletes’ lives and it’s not soccer or softball that gets them excited. Senior Sarah Goodfellow looks forward to playing on the Lady Raider Flag Football team.

“I’ve been playing for about two years ever since the program started,” Goodfellow said.

The girls practice two nights a week and have their games on Fridays. Goodfellow is a receiver and safety for the team.

“Whether we win or lose, we always celebrate,” Goodfellow said. “I love being a part of a team like that.”

The spring season is coming up, and the Lady Raiders have one thing on their mind.

“I definitely want to win,” Goodfellow said. “I think as a team goal we hope to win at least half [of our games].”

Garrett Cox, 9
Dirt Biking

An adrenaline pumping, heart-pounding sport, freshman Garrett Cox has been riding dirt bikes for five years.

“About every weekend I go to out to my grandpa’s ranch and ride,” Cox said. “I love jumping.”

Cox has a Yamaha 125 and has been riding for more than six years.

“It’s fun and exhilarating because it pumps up your adrenaline,” Cox said. “I love how fast you get to go.”

Cox rides for fun, rather than competing, for the thrill that he gets from it all.

“My favorite part is the adrenaline rush you get,” Cox said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Alex Gaskill, 10
Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a difficult sport – running around with sticks with nets trying to catch a ball. But for sophomore Alex Gaskill, it’s a great way to spend his free time.

“I play to be a part of a team,” Gaskill said. “It’s a fun and challenging sport.”

 Gaskill has been playing since eight grade and currently plays for the Raiders’ club team. Last year, he played for Vista Ridge’s club team. During the season he’s out there every day practicing.

“I like getting to hang out with my friends,” Gaskill said. “I just relax and play some lacrosse.”
