The UIL academic team had a strong showing at the Hendrickson tournament, Saturday Feb. 4 with the Literary Criticism team taking first and the Journalism team finishing second.
“I felt very encouraged at our team results,” UIL coordinator Pam Bowmer said. “We were up against some very good 4A and 5A schools and to have placed as we did, I felt, showed the ability to compete and possibly do well at district contest and beyond. We have great kids and I think they showed that at the Hendrickson tournament.”
Individually, eight students placed at the tournament in speech and writing events, including:
Stephanie Hofmann–1st place in Editorial Writing
Anuja Mohaptra – 1st place in Ready Writing
Maria Carrion Cardoza – 2nd in Ready Writing
Kristina Jingling – 2nd in News Writing and 6th in Feature Writing
Brandy Moser–3rd in Literary Criticism
Shelly Spencer – 3rd in News Writing
