Over my break, I experienced something that not many people can say they’ve ever done – I went to Jamaica, Haiti and Grand Cayman with my family all in one week.
If you’re thinking it probably wasn’t as great as it sounds, it definitely was. We cruised with Royal Caribbean and left from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Probably my favorite thing about going on cruises is the fact that you have unlimited free food. Whenever you want. Anywhere you want.
The first stop was Hell, Grand Cayman. It looked like a burnt, barren wasteland of black rocks; almost what you’d picture hell to be like. We also visited a turtle farm on the island and swam in the crystal-clear, blue waters of the Caribbean.
Second stop was Jamaica, which sadly was my least favorite place. In my mind I was picturing a tropical paradise with singing birds and lovely, white sand beaches. However, I was greeted with a port that looked like a cheaper version of Magic Kingdom, minus the castle, and the same things were sold in every store. The tours were also very expensive, so it wasn’t worth the stop.
Last, but definitely not least, was Haiti. I wasn’t expecting much, but we went to Royal Caribbean’s private section and holy cow, it was probably the prettiest, coolest place I’ve ever been to. Not only did it have a rollercoaster built into a mountain, but it had the world’s longest zip-line, a traditional outdoor marketplace and amazing beaches.
Overall, it was a great vacation and I learned a lot about other places and how other cultures work.
