C2 added a dollop of kindness on top of their already full bowl with a new tradition, Kindness Week. The group, which is dedicated to giving students a voice and focuses on anti-discrimination and bullying awareness, held the week Nov. 14-18 with a different theme each day.
“We’re proud to have joined the C-Squared Movement in LISD,” club sponsor Keli McCabe said. “We hope to put an emphasis on kindness as a way to ensure that everyone looks forward to coming to school every day.”
Monday was Pay it Forward, asking students to do a favor, give a compliment or make someone’s day. C2 members wore smiley face rings as a symbol for a Random Act of Kindness and passed on the rings during the day as part of a “Pay it Forward” reminder.
Tuesday was Awkward Day to celebrate life’s awkward moments. Wednesday was Celebrate Diversity, encouraging students to place their thumbprint on a map indicating where their family originated.
“In C2 everyone is accepted, anyone can join the club we are not exclusive,” C2 president Paige Smith said. “And that’s what I love about it.”
Thursday was Show your Gratitude, giving students the change to express thanks on notes and post on a “Gratitude Wall.”
“We learn in C2 how to help and be grateful for everyone around you,” senior Matt Martinez said. “And that they will always have your back.”
On Friday, C2 students will wear their club T-shirts and teach students the C2 sign.
“The T-shirts are awesome, everybody loves them, but the dance is the best,” Martinez said.
