The journalism department brought home two photo awards and a newspaper award at the Texas Association of Journalism Educators’ Fall Fiesta, Oct. 24.
Senior Alex Kunert earned Honorable Mention for her Photography Portfolio and junior Briggs Schraeder won an Award of Excellence for Yearbook Photography.
“It is a big honor to be a part of the competition,” Schraeder said. “I am very grateful that I won.”
Schraeder’s photo was of football player Chris Blount’s reaction at the Homecoming game. Kunert’s portfolio featured five photos, including a close-up of an emu.
“I enjoyed competing in the contest,” Kunert said. “But I feel like I could have done better if I tried harder and put more time into it.”
In the Best of Show competition, the Raider Rumbler took second place in the small newspaper category.
“I think we deserved it,” sophomore Keely Wirries said. “We work way too hard to not place and I am definitely glad we won.”
Newspaper, yearbook, broadcast and photography students attended the convention, attending the annual convention, attending seminars on writing, editing, video and photography.
