The annual Leander ISD Choral Showcase was held at Cedar Park High School at 7 p.m on Sept. 15. From songs about biscuits to Fleetwood Mac covers, each of the six high schools in the district brought their choirs to perform two pieces of music.
“I have a lot of respect for everybody who was there the entire day, because they just came to hear other people sing and that’s something we all enjoy,” junior Beaux Hernandez said. “It’s always rewarding to perform with the people I love.”
Two students from every high school choir, including Chorale president Andres Garza and Seraphim president Cora Caudle, held a panel for students from LISD middle schools. The panel was asked a list of questions from the middle schoolers, and students were allowed to freely ask questions from the audience.
“I think the Q&A was helpful because it’s really stressful going into high school not knowing anything and how different it is,” Caudle said. “It’s cool that they got to hear from us because I would’ve liked that experience when I was in middle school.”
The varsity treble choir Seraphim performed an acapella arrangement of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac, which they have been rehearsing since the beginning of the school year.
“It was nerve racking because I knew we were prepared, but I think it’s always scary before the execution happens,” Hernandez said. “You put in the hard work, but you never really know if it’s gonna be enough to execute it the way you want it to be until it’s over.”
Chorale, the varsity mixed choir sang “The Road Home” composed by Michael Dennis Browne. The song featured a solo sung by senior Emma Carver.
“As a whole we sounded really beautiful and it was the best we’ve sounded on that song,” Carver said. “When it comes to my solo, I didn’t really think too much about it, I just sang, and it sounded fantastic overall.”
The choir program’s next event will be their fall concert on Oct. 14 in the auditorium, featuring both songs performed at the Choral Showcase as well as more numbers from the rest of the department.
