The Lady Raiders finished their season in the fourth round of playoffs. Leaving three teams in the playoffs without a single score towards them. Prior to playoffs, they finished 2nd in district with a record of 12-2.
“We are very lucky that this group of girls are intrinsically motivated, they are competitive from the get go,” Assistant Coach Erin Moore said. “We’re just gonna ride the wave and keep going.”
Even with such a successful season, the Lady Raiders still faced some adversity. During district they took two losses to Cedar Park, with scores of 2-1 and 2-0. They also took a loss to Smithson Valley, burning Regional Finals with a score of 1-3.
“I would definitely say just be humble and work your hardest cause sometimes not everything is gonna go your way,” sophomore Alise Martin said. “You’re gonna face a lot of adversity, so I would just stay strong and know your worth and just keep working and playing.”
The team had an overall record of 21-4-1, winning 7 out of their 8 home games.
“Adapting to the high speed of being a varsity [player] has been hard, but rewarding,” sophomore Hannah Christopher said. “Whenever we lose against Cedar Park we build back up and make sure to execute for the next game.”
Throughout the season, the team has faced tough competition by having to play against 3 top 50 state ranked teams. Still, Rouse was able to beat Liberty Hill twice earning their 2nd place spot in district ranking and 20th in the state.
Head Coach Corey Elrod and Moore are seen as pivotal figures in many of the girls’ lives, and have built strong support systems for the team.
“Coach Elrod makes sure that we’re on our grind at practice and he encourages us,” sophomore Mia Merz said. “Their coaching really helps us do well in the playoffs with constant encouragement and motivation for us to be better.”
