The 67th Annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday Feb. 2. The ceremony was hosted by comedian Trevor Noah for the fifth year in a row, and took place at the Crypto.com Arena. With over 20 artists performing and some of the biggest names of music pit against each other, the event made for a memorable show.
Beyonce stole the night by winning Album of the Year with her record Cowboy Carter, making her the most nominated artist in Grammy history with 99 nominations total. This also cemented her as the fourth black woman ever to win this category. She was also awarded with Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group performance.
Record of the Year was won by Kendrick Lamar with his single “Not Like Us,” a song that came as a result of his longtime feud with rapper Drake. He also scored the nomination for Song of the Year with this same track.
Chappell Roan claimed the award for Best New Artist, which was by far one of the most highly anticipated categories of the night, with her competition being artists such as Raye and Benson Boone. She also performed her hit song “Pink Pony Club,”complete with a life sized fake pink horse and backup dancers.
Although she lost for Best New Artist, Sabrina Carpenter took home Best Pop Vocal Album for her album Short N’ Sweet. She stunned the show with a mashup performance of “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” whilst wearing a studded blue bodysuit.
Doechii became the third woman in history to win the category for Best Rap Album with her record Alligator Bites Never Heal. To celebrate, she released her new song “Nosebleeds”.
One of the most notable performances of the night was by Charli XCX, who was nominated for seven awards and won Best Dance/Electronic Album for Brat. She sang a mashup of her songs “Von Dutch” and “Guess”, and brought on stage multiple surprise guests such as model Alex Consani and Julia Fox. Piles of underwear fell to the stage during “Guess”, all of which were donated to domestic violence survivors.
Other performers throughout the ceremony included John Legend, Cynthia Erivo, Billie Eilish and more. The show also paid tribute to the recent Los Angeles wildfires by raising money for relief efforts, and even had a group of firefighters present the final award of the night.
