On Sept. 24 the varsity tennis team took on Glenn for the first round of the district tournament, with the score being 5-10, leaving the team with fifth place overall.

“I’ve seen matches that shift in our favor, I’ve seen matches shift away from us,” tennis coach Alex Smith said. “We walked away from that match and I was not upset at anybody for the way they played. I thought we all played really well. You know, sometimes that’s just how it goes.”

After facing the same results last year the team had been attempting to break the streak to move on to round two on Friday, Sep. 27.

“When we played Glenn the first time (last year) we lost because we felt like we didn’t have enough energy,” junior Lucas Alden said. “But, this time it was a lot more energy. We lost but it was a better performance than the last time as I think we really stopped getting in our heads mentally.”

The whole team faced different adversities and challenges and tried to control the point and gain the lead in the standings.

“I really do think that we put our best lineup forward and I think in the future it’s just preparing them better for the reality of losing,” Smith said. “That our best effort may not be enough sometimes and that’s so hard to teach kids. If you can do a hundred percent of your best it’s still not on top.”

Moving on from the loss in the fall season, now the whole team’s eyes are all set on the spring season.

“[This loss] provides me with a fresh start for new beginnings,” senior Shivani Sreekant said. “It was definitely kinda sad losing to the same team in the first round as last year but I was definitely able to see improvement in our playing and team morale.”
