The cross country team brought home five awards from their first meet at the Hutto Hippo Relays, Aug. 27. Each team consisted of three runners that ran two miles each in a six-mile relay; each athlete ran a mile before passing the baton to the next teammate. The third person passed it to the first runner and each member of the team completed a second mile.
The varsity girls team of Helena Castle, Karigan Allowits and Nicole Kastens took first place. The second varsity girls team, Mariah Galleogos, Alyssa Amirault, and Marrissa Naab, finished sixth. Adriana Reyes, Annie Wingard and Stephany Rubalcalba were seventh. The junior varsity girls Aubrey Swilling, Justine Franklin and Becca Alvara took first place in their race. The JV boys, Aaron Rodriquez, Gabe Lopez and Tucker Hytrek, took fifth place.
There are six more meets before district, Oct 28.
“I think we will do awesome,” junior Annie Wingard said. “We got a lot of momentum from last year and new people. We are going to be good.”
