Baseball prepares for upcoming season

    After much anticipation, baseball will start their season with an away game against McNeil on Feb. 10. Last year, the varsity boys team placed in district 15-2-0. The team is currently ranked 11 in the state.

“As a coach, my goal is to make it through as far a we can,” Doug Williams said. “I want to share everything that I have with them. I want my players to rise to the occasion where they are great.”

    Williams is the junior varsity coach. This is his first year working as a coach with 28 years of experience playing the sport.

    “I’m excited to win,” Williams said. “I think we are going to go far. The potential to go far is something that keeps me excited all the time.”

    According to Williams, Georgetown is the biggest competitor that the team will face this season. In district, their standings are 14-3-0.

  “The game that is personally marked on my calendar is Georgetown,” senior Cody Vannoy said. “They have been talking a lot of smack. We broke their district winning streak last year. They are going to be coming for us this year. Georgetown is our top priority.”

    Junior Robert Mount has prepared this season by getting his volcity up when batting. This is Mount’s second time on the team.

    “I have been doing a lot of sprints,” Mount said. “I have been trying to get repetition in to perfect my skills this season. We have a stronger confidence this season. We know what we can do, and I think we are going to surpass that.”

    The goal is to win state and play at the Dell Diamond. With the success from last season, varsity is ready is ready to give it their all.   

     “This year compared to last year our talent level has gone up,” sophomore Dalton Porter said. “Last year we had a lot of guys who were good at their job. This year, we have players who can play multiple roles on the field. I am really excited to see how we play on the field.”
