FiSH club is new to the school with 2017-2018 being its inaugural year. FiSH club stands for ”Freshman in Senior Hands,” but for this first year, is considered “Freshman in Student Hands.” The group will become exclusive to seniors and freshmen next school year.

Co-presidents, juniors Rachel Brady and Reyla Lott, put the club in the works last spring.

“The idea came from Cy-Woods in Houston, where I was going to go to school before I moved here to Leander,” Brady said. “FiSH club was super popular there, and I loved the idea of it. Even though I was never able to go in Houston, I decided to start a FiSH club here at Rouse.”

Freshman in Student Hands encourages seniors and freshmen to come together and form friendships. The club grants the opportunity for seniors to help freshmen adjust to high school and feel comfortable at school.

“Our goal for FiSH is to get as many freshmen involved at Rouse as possible, and to build more bonds between upperclassmen and lowerclassmen,” Lott said. “We want to help  freshman by pushing them to get the most out of their high school experience.”

The first step taken this school year was the club booth at Raider Camp where freshmen members were recruited. Meetings are every other Tuesday in room 6101, club sponsor Keli McCabe’s classroom.

“Our motto is, ‘Helping freshmen love high school,’” McCabe said. “Our vision is to bring upperclassmen and freshmen together on a regular basis for fun and to participate together in school and community events.”

The club is looking to recruit as many students as possible to join and attend meetings. If you’re interested in joining, the next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 24.

FiSH club meetings are super fun because we all hang out and talk, eat snacks and play games,” Brady said. “We want FiSH club to continue growing and to have consistent meetings where everyone can come to have a good time with friends.”
