Being Treated like a VIP

Brandon Lemus, Staffer

The room is almost completely black. Hundreds of little yellow lights shine like stars. All I can hear is silence. Then the bass drops, and that’s when I know… this is it. The moment of truth, the end, Act Ⅲ.

Now, if you understood that last line then you know exactly what this is about. And well, if you didn’t, then this is about the single most loud, energetic, emotional, best concert I have ever been to. And that is saying a lot, considering how many people I have been fortunate to see. But again… this was and is the best of the best.

Some people may look at me like I’m insane or simply think I’m off because of how I describe this concert. However, if you’re a music geek like me, or any other regular person on the street, you will know what I’m talking about when I say that being in the same room as one of your biggest influencers is purely euphoric.

   Crazy. I know.

Now before I go any further I suppose I should probably tell you who it is that I saw.

It was the one and only G-Dragon. And even if you don’t know who this is, just know that in the K-Pop realm, he is a legend. He is considered to be one of the most unique characters within the music world and one of the biggest idols in K-Pop. He has inspired many of the younger artists that are now appearing.

Similarly, I too, am heavily inspired by him. Hence the overwhelming feeling of joy that I got as soon as I walked into the venue.

It was amazing to see the amount of people there. For me, and I’m assuming a lot of other K-Pop fans out there who don’t really have a friend group into the same music, it was a great feeling to be able to walk into a concert where everyone enjoys the same genre. When I walked in, I was excited because I knew the crowd felt the same way I did.

Aside from the very obvious emotional experience I had at the concert, the performance itself was amazing. G-Dragon was better than any other artist I have seen. That includes Paramore, Marilyn Manson, Gerard Way and Fall Out Boy. Those are only a few of the people that I’ve seen, and the rest of them still didn’t have as an amazing performance as G-Dragon. The light show, the graphics, the costume changes and the singing quality was flawless.

The experience was perfect. I have never felt so happy from one thing in my entire life. I’ve also never screamed so loud either. I mean, 30 minutes into the concert  it felt like I was swallowing glass. I lost my voice for three days and was sore for a week. That has never happened to me at any concert.

I remember during all the slow sad songs, I was feeling like I was a part of something. Everyone around me was crying and laughing and singing and screaming along with G Dragon and myself.

This concert was truly an experience I will never forget. It was beyond amazing, and I will always be extremely grateful I was able to go.
