Best of Anime

Anime is a type of Japanese animation that is mainly for young adults and is fairly popular worldwide as there are even anime watchers in our own school. Anime is still a cartoon but as anime watchers would say there is a difference. Anime is a set of complicated stories, deep character development, and themes fit for adults, not always children. It can be seen as a medium of sorts for teens who are trying to “escape” their childish ways while still watching animated, cartoon like shows and movies.

Anime enthusiast juniors Madison Woodworth, Dustin Casillas, Cece Monroe, and senior Gabriel Barrett have answered the call for answers about their thoughts on anime.

Question 1: Which anime out of this list do you think is best, why?

MW: “Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, and Naruto Shippuden, because they are exciting and gorey.”

DC: “Blue Exorcist, Kaichou Wa Maid-sama, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, they were the first few animes I dived into, mostly because I enjoy supernatural.”

CM: “Everything on Hulu tops besides Death Note, because most of them were action and full of angst.”

GB: “Naruto Shippuden, it’s just an all around great show, it’s unbeatable.”

Question 2: What anime would you recommend for first time watchers?

MW: “I would say Naruto.”

DC: “Fruits Baskets, it’s a little bit of everything all rolled into one.”

CM: “It depends on the person, Bungou Stray Dogs or Blue Exorcist for guys and Hetalia for girls.”

GB: “Probably something easy to watch that doesn’t have a lot of levels like Yu Yu Hakusho or Dragonball Z.”

Question 3: What is your favorite anime of all (does not have to be on the list)?

MW: “My favorite is Guren Loggen.”

DC: “Eureka Seven.”

CM: “My favorites are Blue Exorcist, Aoharu X Machine Gun, and Love Stage.”

GB: “Naruto Shippuden hands down.”

Question 4: What is one anime you would recommend for a certain genre?

MW: “Gore/horror because it’s fun and exciting.”

DC: “Horror because it’s something I grew up with.”

CM: “Action because there’s a lot of drama and it has some comedy”

GB: “ Definitely One Punch Man for action or comedy anime. I feel like anyone could get into that show.”

Question 5: Do you think manga is better than anime?

MW: “I don’t read manga so I’m going to say no.”

DC: “In some cases manga is better though most of the time both anime and manga follow the same story line so it doesn’t matter.”

CM: “Really depends, because some manga is better than the anime but they both follow the same aspects. Though it’s good to see both perspectives.”

GB: “It’s a preference. I don’t read manga but some people enjoy it.”

Question 6: Would you tell someone to read the manga before they watch the anime?

MW: “I would tell someone to watch the anime first if they enjoy watching rather than reading.”

DC: “Watch the anime first to see if you like the idea but if like reading then read the manga first.”

CM: “It depends, if you read the manga it could ruin the anime but I recommend reading the manga first.”

GB: “No I wouldn’t, I’m more entertained by the anime anyway.”

Question 7: Who is your favorite anime character?

MW: “I don’t have a favorite, they all have something I like but not enough to be a favorite.”

DC: “Misaki Takahashi from Junjou Romantica because he’s adorable.”

CM: “Hotaru Tachibana off of Aoharu X Machine Gun.”

GB: “Shikamaru Nara from Naruto, he’s such an intellectual.”
