The Rouse Certamen placed first in their tournament, Oct. 15  at Westlake High School. The Novice team, who has a history of dominating the Novice level certamen teams, beat out St. Andrew’s Episcopal and Dripping Springs High School in the final round taking home first place.latin-club-1

I felt very proud,” Certamen coach Katie Cowhig said. “I’m happy they were able to show off their knowledge and have a fun time too.”

Certamen is very similar to a quiz bowl. Teams of four are asked questions about Roman life, history, mythology and Latin language. The first three rounds determine who will be eligible to play in the finals, since only three teams can compete against each other at a time.  The final round determines the winner. The Novice team won in the final round.

“I’m very happy that we won,” freshman Kelly Bobo said. “My goal is that we continue to score high and get first place throughout the season.”

The Rouse Certamen will compete at their next tournament, Nov. 12 at St. Andrew’s Upper School.
