The Voice
NBC
Tuesdays 9 p.m.
Since American Idol first got established in 2002, lots of other singing competition shows have emerged. NBC’s The Voice is one of these new shows. It is similar to American Idol and other shows in that the contestants are ordinary people that auditioned, there are four coaches, or judges, and the contestants have to compete against each other to win. However, there is a new twist.
The coaches for The Voice are some of the biggest names of music; Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.
The first few episodes of the show are the blind auditions, where the contestants start their individual performances on stage. However, the coaches’ backs are turned. If they like what they hear, then they press a button that turns their chair around. In doing so, they pick the contestant to be on their team. If more than one judge turns around, then the contestant has to choose which one they want to coach them. Each coach ends up with eight people on their team.
After the blind auditions, the battle rounds begin. Each coach picks two people from their team to compete against each other in a duet. After the performance, the coach then has to choose between the two people to decide who will advance to the live show and who will go home. This process is repeated until each coach has only four contestants left.
After the battle rounds, the remaining four per team advance to the live shows, where America gets to decide the winner. The winner’s coach will be able to say that they trained The New Voice of America.
The contestants on the shows range from Dia Frampton’s smooth, delicate voice to Javier Colon’s raspy one to Vicci Martinez’ soulful rockstar voice. There is a wide variety of artists, and I can’t wait to see who is going to win!
