Seventy-one years ago, an Oklahoma high school basketball coach founded a club for his athletes. Now seven decades later, the club is in high schools in 47 different countries.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a Christian organization where students can come together and get to know fellow believers.

“Our mission is to give kids on campus another opportunity, another chance of Christian fellowship,” sponsor Michael Hjort said.

FCA is a led by students for a Bible study opportunity on campus. They meet on Fridays at 8:15 a.m. FCA has been a part of the school for seven years. Each year they attend See You at the Pole in mid-September and they host two major events, the Christmas party and a lock-in in May.

“The lock-in that we have every year and our Christmas part are always pretty fun,” Hjort said.

As a Christian ministry, the student leadership comes together to discuss the lesson that they will minister to the students. Afterward they chose a leader to teach the lesson. Hjort provides the room for the lesson.

“The first semester we try to go through the 10 Commandments,” club president Cameron Holland said. “But we are an open book, trying to plan.”

FCA is not the only Christian club for Rouse students, students also can be part of Cause Club and YoungLife.

“We are working with Cause Club,” Holland said. “We try even if we don’t go to some of the meetings.”

Cause Club meets on Wednesday mornings in Geography teacher Carlos Martinez’s room and YoungLife holds events on Monday evenings at 7 p.m.

“I love it, where all the groups come to participate,” Hjort said. “We all have a common purpose. It will be nice to pull our resources together.”

From donuts to fellowship, FCA welcomes anyone and everyone to come and have a fun time together.

“We call it Fellowship of Christian Assembly,” Holland said. “We want it to not only have athletes in the club, but we also want everyone, too.”
