Cause Club provides student-based ministry on campus
January 4, 2016
Free. Free from sin. Free to pray. Free to worship. All are free to share God’s word.
Cause Club is a student-based ministry led by junior Janet Lagunas. This club is meant for students to spread and learn about the word of God to change not only the hallways of the school but also the world around us.
“I’m honored people attend Cause Club and dedicate their time to come,” Lagunas said. “I represent the name of Jesus and I appreciate them wanting to walk the walk with God rather than talk the talk.”
This club has made an impact on many of the members and encouraged them to take their relationship with God to the next level.
“This club has taught me how to be a better person and apply the Bible in my everyday life,” junior Dazsia Sullivan said. “I’ve become more active in my prayers and prayer requests have helped me get through some rough times.”
As a student-based ministry, students find it easier to understand and relate to the messages.
“I enjoy the extra time I get with God at school,” junior Ashlee Pollock said. “I like this club because it’s relatable to our age group and I find it spiritually interesting. The church atmosphere is a great addition in my school life.”
Lagunas personally felt like God put it on her heart to carry this club from her church to the school. She bases her messages off of what she’s seen throughout the week at school that should be addressed. It takes her from Sunday through Tuesday to plan it all out.
“I love being able to minister to these students because the fact that I was given the ability to speak and be the disciple for Rouse High School is a blessing so why not take advantage of it and use it,” Lagunas said. “It’s something I was called by God to do and I hope one day my preaching will touch someone and influence them to speak as well.”
To take advantage of the technology-based generation, Cause Club has a Remind 101 to provide another way to connect with all the club members. Scriptures are sent out throughout the day to possibly help someone get through their day or provide someone with a devotional.
“I love the messages that are sent out because it helps me look up scriptures in my Bible,” junior Tyia Dixon said. “It helps start my day off right. Being sent throughout the day helps keep my thoughts on the lord as my day goes on. I also try to keep some of the messages sent in mind to reference back to later to potentially help me get through something in the future.”
Club meetings are held in Carlos Martinez’ room in 2407 on Wednesdays at 8:01 a.m. Lagunas doesn’t begin to speak until about 8:10 to round up any late comers. This club is open to anyone who is interested in joining.
“People are able to come to me more openly and trust me more,” Lagunas said. “I am also more open to other people as well. We all are struggling with something but this club gives us a chance to come together for that greater purpose. God.”
