Music helps students study, complete work

Homework. Studying. Essays. Assignments. Regardless of the assignment, students are utilizing music to help them get through their work done.

Students use music as an effective way to help them focus on various subjects with different kinds of music based on their individual personalities to match the hours they spend on their schoolwork.

“Each night, I would probably spend like, an hour or two on homework,” freshman Elayna Blair said. “To help me study, I use music because it helps block out everything else and helps me concentrate.”

Freshman Ashlynn Davidson found music helped her concentrate on staying awake late at night.

“I first realized this was a good method around last year the first time I was up really late doing homework and I fell asleep a lot,” freshman Ashlynn Davidson said. “So I realized that if I put on something heavy, that it might help me stay up and actually help me complete my homework.”

Students like senior Dominic Hudson use music to block out the noise around his house, especially from his siblings that can distract him from his homework.

“When I was in fifth grade, I had to study going to El Paso,” Hudson said. “We were just driving and I just started listening to music because all of the kids were loud in the car and I said, ‘Oh, this works.’ ”

Along with music, people’s study environment is also another thing people differ from each other.

“My studying environment is mostly in my bedroom,” Blair said. “Either that, or at school.”

Davidson listens to rock, pop-punk and post-hardcore, liking bands like Pierce the Veil and All Time Low.

“Music has a huge impact on my life. It encourages me to stay in school so I don’t get my devices taken away,” Davidson said. “If I didn’t have these devices, how could I be able to listen to my music?”
