Two students placed at the UIL regional meet, April 23 in Waco.

Junior Nate Scott placed sixth in Ready Writing. Scott’s prompt was over the deterioration of the modern language.

“Today felt longer than usual, and there was a lot to unpack, it was a winding process,” Scott said. “It was good for me and now I get a feel for how I should prepare for next year.”

Senior Jordan Buie placed third in Editorial Writing, an event where the contestants write a persuasive article from the viewpoint of the newspaper editorial board and defend their stance. By placing third, Buie qualified for state.

“I have never done particularly well in editorial, so it was a surprise to have gotten as far as state,” Buie said. “In editorial you basically pick a side and argue for it, so I think that’s why I enjoy it so much.”

Buie will compete at the state tournament May 24, at The University of Texas at Austin.

“Honestly each competition varies on the day, the prompt, the judges,” Buie said. “But I can’t wait to give it my all.”
