The NJROTC CyberPatriot Team recently placed eighth in the nation for Navy ROTC units and 24th for all ROTC units at a national cybersecurity competition sponsored by Corvalent, an industial computer manufacturer.

“CyberPatriot is a cyber security defense competition that allows for people, not just ROTC cadets, to take part in a cyber security competition where you go and harden computers,” junior Addison Abucejo said. “And make sure that they are protected from viruses and malware, any sort of program that can harm your system.”

The team consisted of Abucejo, a Rouse junior, and four juniors from Vista Ridge High School. Military leaders work alongside cadets, coaching them throughout the competition.

“I’m trying to get more recognition for ROTC over here at Rouse,” Abucejo said. “I feel pretty good that I was able to contribute to a national winning team, that we got top one percent in the nation for our competition and, I felt very accomplished to take part in such an amazing program to help make sure that cadets, like people know more about cyber security and just get the awareness out there and it was a lot of fun being a part of the team.”
