Fifteen students place at UIL district
April 6, 2016
Fifteen students placed at the UIL district meet, April 2 and 4.
At Westwood High School, Saturday, April 2, 12 students placed, including senior Angela Schiff who took second in Literary Criticism.
“It made feel really happy because like when you go into those you really don’t always know if you know everything because there’s just so much information,” Schiff said. “So it was just really nice to know I did well.”
Junior Nathan Scott placed in two contests, taking second place in Ready Writing and second in Spelling.
“It’s really cool and exciting,” Scott said. “I’ve always kinda wonder how good I was at writing, so it’s pretty cool. Ready Writing was the hardest because they don’t give you a prompt, just a quote and tell you to respond to it, so how you go about that is entirely up to you, so you have to figure out what angle that you want to go, and pursue it, so I think that is a little harder than spelling.”
Schiff, Scott and senior Connor Doolittle all placed in the top three of their events and now move onto regionals in Waco, April 23. Junior Michelle Contreras and senior Jordan Buie will also join them at the regional meet. Three journalism students placed at district, April 4 at Round Rock High school. Buie won Editorial Writing and took second in News.
“My sophomore year I went to state which set the bar kinda high,” Buie said. “My junior year I didn’t [even] make it to regionals and this is my last year to make it to state again.”
