The varsity track teams are back on the track, competing at meets in preparation for district.

“I like the workouts our coach has us doing this year,” junior Kylie Carpenter said. “They really prepare us for district. The competition for 6A has also helped us. Because of it we really dominate.”

At the Dripping Springs meet Feb. 27, senior Evan Rogers placed first in the 400 meter dash.

“I was really happy because I accomplished my goal of winning and getting a good time,” Rogers said. “I’m proud of the team, I think we did really well because a lot of people placed, medaled, and beat personal records.”

Senior Morgan Vest also placed at the meet, taking first in the 100 meter dash.

“It felt really good placing first,” Vest said. “It was a great accomplishment, and it was really fun to go and celebrate with all the track guys.

The guys also traveled to Round Rock, March 5 with senior Ross Edwards winning the high jump. The meets have helped Edwards and the team get ready for district in two weeks.

“Our team strategy to win and place is just running as fast as we can and making quick turns,” Edwards said, “I see our team improving, we’ve been improving on our times and just our performance overall.”

Athletes like junior James Tisdale are working on their times. Tisdale took third in the 3,200 meter run at the Lake Travis meet, March 11.

“I feel pretty good about it because the place I made in the race isn’t the most important part to me,” Tisdale said. “The most important thing is if I improve my time, and it always feels great to beat a personal record.”

For the girls, they have attended several meets of their last two months, traveling to Westlake, The Woodlands and Smithson Valley for competition. Senior Haley Timmons won the 3200 meter run at Westlake, Feb. 20.

“I didn’t find value with the victory, but within the team and environment, and that was great of course,” Timmons said. “My team and I are climbing up the ranks and I’m excited to see how the team does once I graduate.”

The girls  traveled to the Texas Relays April 1-2, while both teams went to the Georgetown Relays, April 7 before competing at district April, 12-14.
