After the first round, the varsity girls softball team is 5-2 in district play.

“It’s been great,” sophomore Yvonne Castillo said. “I love district games. They are so exiting. Tournaments are so much fun just being with everyone and getting to ride on the bus with all of my team. But district games are like we are there and we want to win. It was the first district game and it was such a thrill. Everyone was happy and it was so awesome.”

The girls opened up district play at Pflugerville with a 6-5 win, March 3. However the girls dropped their next game to Westwood 3-0 at home, March 4. They bounced back with a 3-1 home win over Round Rock, March 8.

“We did a really good working together as a team,” senior Jordaine Bishop said. “As we were batting and pitching, we had each other’s back.”

They lost a hitting battle with Cedar Ridge, 12-10, March 14. The next day, the girls knocked the score out of the park with a 12-1 win against McNeil.

“They were a really good team,” junior Briyana Poole said. “But in the end, we came out stronger.”

The team won their last two first round games, a 5-1 win at Stony Point, March 22 and a 9-4 win over Hendrickson at home, March 24.

“I knew it was going to be tough,” senior Baylee Pearce said. “We fought hard and got our win, we were happy about it.”

The team opens up the second round of district April 1 against Pflugerville at 7 p.m.
