The softball team is swinging back into action for the new season.

After opening the season at home with an 8-4 win over Georgetown, Feb. 16.

“Our first game we kind of came out slow at the beginning,” junior Savannah Wells said. “But towards the end when the rally started in the fourth inning, we started getting pumped and we just started playing our game and knew that we could come out on top if we actually had the energy and had the confidence and faith that we had towards the end.”

They traveled to the Mansfield tournament, Feb. 18-20. The team won five of five games, scoring 53 runs in the tournament.

“During the Mansfield tournament we really came together as a team and trusted each other on the field,” senior Jordaine Bishop said. “We had faith that everyone was going to give it all they had. This was the best outcome we’ve ever had in Mansfield and I’m excited we finished strong. We used this momentum to compete well in the season.”

Returning home, they lost a close battle with Leander 5-4, Feb. 23. The team played in their final tournament before district, Feb. 19-20, going 3-2 in the Tuck Varsity Tournament.

“We did pretty well in the tournament,” junior Tevannae Tate said. “It was a good way to start our pre-season and we really played as a team that weekend. We had a lot of good hits and comebacks and just played well together.”

The team starts district play March 1, playing at Pflugerville.

“I don’t expect anything big, but my wish for our team and this year is to be first in districts,” Tate said. “So that means that, last year we lost to Cedar Ridge in the first and second round so hopefully we come out on top during spring break.”
