Christopher Columbus may have sailed the ocean blue in 1492 but now watch as he sails across the stage with this year’s One-Act Play, Mariner. The play follows Christopher Columbus, the charming voyager who encounters love, life and struggles against authority as he challenges the matters of his obsession.

“The show is about Christopher Columbus and its following his life after death,” senior Jeremy Jewett said. “And it’s like a weird purgatory type deal where his life is being adjudicated.”

The OAP cast will have their public performance showcased March 21 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium and will compete at the UIL district competition, March 24 at Hendrickson High School. Tickets for both performances are $5. The district performance allows attendees to watch all seven plays. Three plays will move on to the bi-district level.

I’m really excited because this One-Act, our set is probably the best set that we’ve had in all of the years that Rouse High School theatre has been around,” senior Angela Schiff said. “And also this is our most adventurous play now, like as of yet and I think it is just so different from the things we’ve done the past years and it’s just going to be super interesting.”
