Theatre Two and Three classes showcase films at Hollywood Night

The Theater II and III classes spent the past four months writing, casting, directing, filming, and producing short films. The 41 students made 10 films that were 10 to 15 minutes each. The students did all the work themselves to come up with the final product.

“I think they turned out pretty good considering the short amount of time we had,” junior James Monreal said.

Each film conveyed a message, from serious issues like human trafficking or bullying to more humorous themes like zombie romances and space adventures.

“We each had different ideas for themes,” junior Beth Hunter said. “But after a discussion we came to a decision, and it was something that was interesting to all of us.”

The project required a lot of work, with several unexpected difficulties.

“Shooting outdoors was a problem,” Monreal said. “We also had problems with cutting out scenes, actors’ commitment, and language.”

This experience helped the students better appreciate the amount of work that goes into making real movies.

“Now, I’m not as quick to judge movies,” Monreal said. “Now I really understand all the hard work and dedication that goes into it.”

An exhibition for the films was held Tuesday, May 3 at “Hollywood Night,” complete with a red carpet, “Oscar” awards, and the students dressing up for the occasion.

“I think that theatre was kind of an outlet for everyone,” Hunter said. “There’s a sense of acceptance, and I hope that remains even after we graduate.”
