Making the Grade: Mini-Editorials

Reading Friday
Reading Fridays have lost their purpose. The 20 minutes that should be set aside for reading are being replaced with other activities by some students. Most Advocate teachers have stopped enforcing the rule of 20 minutes of reading every Friday. Reading is beneficial for students and our education. But it’s hard to improve the issue when teachers are busy grading papers or ignoring that students are texting or listening to music. We know some students are really trying to get done homework and assignments, but devoting 20 minutes once a week isn’t a lot ask. Grade: C
January Schedules
Most students don’t even know what they want for dinner next week, let alone anything they want seven months from now. With the opening of Glenn, students had to pick their schedules for the next school year during late January and early February. How do we pick what we want to study next year, now? I’m sure some kids already have their schedule planned out, but as for the indecisive students, it’s frustrating. Grade: C-
Mr. Maroon
The beloved senior tradition finally happened last week. Mr. Maroon, the senior guy talent show, is a way for the whole school to come together to watch our senior Raiders show what they can do. Hosted by the Royals, Mr. Maroon is a great chance to showcase talent and help the dance team fund their national competition. Not only is it a favorite of many to watch and participate in, it’s a great fundraiser to help the Royals on their road to nationals. Grade: A+
