Can’t Beat the Summer Heat

I hate summer. Don’t get me wrong, I love that we don’t have school, but as a season summer is the worst, especially in Texas. Normal states have four complete seasons; Texas on the other hand, has two – fall and summer. Summer lasts three fourths of the year here, beginning in April and lasting through October.

It’s HOT. I am extremely white and can’t take a walk outside without getting a sunburn. To prevent this in the summer I have to coat myself in sun screen every half hour. If I don’t reapply; I climb out of the pool, or the car, or where ever I am looking like a lobster and in an insane amount of pain.

During the summer there aren’t many things to do other then go swimming or go to the park. Swimming is fun when you with your friends, but have any of you ever thought about being in a public pool? It’s basically a gigantic communal bath, minus the getting clean part. Honestly, the little kids that are there don’t know that it’s wrong to relieve their bladders in the pool. You don’t know how many people have been in the same water as you, or what diseases they might have been carrying. Plus, kids get into the dirtiest things, and chances are there mom didn’t make them take a bath before they brought them to the water.

Even if you avoid public pools all summer, what is left to do? Parks are fun, and so are picnics, but not in 100 degree weather, unless of course, you enjoy sweating and heat stroke. Ice cream isn’t even a good idea because, even though it is scrumdidilumtious, it’s sticky and melts all over you.

Since it’s so hot I spend all of my summer inside either sitting at my house or in the movie theater. I would prefer if we had school through the summer, with two weeks between semesters, and then have two months off in the winter between school years. Then during the winter we could actually enjoy the brisk weather, and not be scalding hot all break.
