Mr. Maroon pageant, Feb. 13

The beloved senior tradition is right around the corner.

Hosted by the Royals, the fifth annual Mr. Maroon will be Saturday, Feb. 13. The senior guy talent show is a favorite for many, and is a fundraiser to help the dance team to get to their nationals competition in April.

Thirteen of the senior guys will compete and show off their talents which include singing, dancing, rapping and playing instruments. Senior Chet Hamilton will play “Piano Man” by Billy Joel for his talent.

“The most exciting thing about competing is the chance to win prizes,” Hamilton said. “And it’s just fun.”

The winner receives a free tuxedo rental, gift certificates for dinner and flowers, and two prom tickets.

Aside the hype from the guys competing, the Royals, Rhythm Dance Company and Royal Rookies will also perform in between acts.

“I’m most excited for our hip hop ‘8 Mile’,” junior Royal Brittany Lawrence said. “We did it at a basketball game and the crowd loved it so I’m hoping for the same experience at Mr. Maroon.”

The pageant starts at 7 p.m. and includes silent auction starting at 6 p.m.

“I think the show is going to go great,” Royals director Amy McKee said. “We have the best talent this year I think, compared to our past years.”

Tickets for the show are $8 if bought in advance. All ticket prices will bump up to $10 at the door. Tickets can be bought online at the Rouse Royals website or at lunch on Thursday.
