The high school disease known as senioritis sweeps high schoolers everywhere as this pandemic eats away at seniors’ attention spans and math skills. It is nearly inescapable as it inspires laziness and makes high school seniors forget about their upcoming responsibilities. As a junior and a member of the school’s alpha class, it is clear that the current juniors are already experiencing the disease. As the alpha class, we have practically been seniors for three years already and next year it will only be worse. Honestly, I didn’t even want to write this column out of laziness. The current juniors are getting more and more anxious as the school year comes to a close and as a result, juniors are rebelling more and more against our teachers, parents and peers. School work and homework is tedious and seems unnecessary, along with TAKS. And for the few of us that have taken the SAT or ACT already, every other test just seems unimportant. Most of us are going to be taking “blow-off” classes next year, yet our expectations for our futures are going to rise. Senioritis is going to affect the minds of seniors and aid in the delay of our college applications and living home. We need to face the facts—as seniors we cannot afford to slack off and misbehave, no matter how much we want to. Now more than ever is the time to be hitting the books hard and really start to plan our futures, because if we don’t start now, we may never get to where we want to be. Whether it’s teaching, designing video games or saving people’s lives, we all have a goal and a future and we, the seniors, need to stand together to help each other beat senioritis and reach the future we want.
