Student Council hosting Pennies for Patients drive
Students encouraged to donate pennies in their class jar, higher coins in other grades’ jars
January 27, 2016
Collecting for the next two weeks, Student Council is holding the annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“The money we collect is going towards an amazing cause,” junior Josh Sanders said. “Tons of people have been affected or know someone affect by cancer, and this money can go towards making someone’s life more bearable.”
As a war between classes, students will put pennies in jars and try to raise more points than the other classes. Pennies count as positive points while all other amounts are negative points. Students can use this to their advantage by putting nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars in other grades’ jars. The jars will be located in the cafeteria and the Commons.
“Cancer is something almost everyone has to deal with one way or another throughout their lives,” senior Dustin Asbury said. “They either have it or know someone who does. There is so much research that needs to be done, so being able to fundraise for it in such a fun way is awesome and we will hopefully get a nice amount to give to the Pennies for Patients foundation.”
