The 2010 – 2011 Rouse Scholars were honored on March 30 in the lecture hall. A total of 220 students were honored in two ceremonies – 62 freshmen, 94 sophomores and 64 juniors. The Rouse Scholars are students who have earned an A average in all of their classes in the Spring 2010 semester and/or the Fall semester.
“I studied very hard to increase the chance of having my average be at best an A,” sophomore Ashlee Bardin said. “It taught me to be a leader. Being a Rouse scholar is an honor. I feel like my school recognizes my hard work.”
The sophomores and juniors attended the ceremony at 9 a.m. during which LISD school board president Will Streit spoke about the importance of preparing for college. The sophomores also attend ed a day at the ropes course while the juniors went on a field trip to the University of Texas at San Antonio campus.
“I worked hard and tried to get all A’s so I could drive,” sophomore Zack Short said. “I felt it benefited my team building skills, and I got to miss school.”
The freshmen attended a 10:30 a.m. ceremony later that morning, during which Charles Rouse, the school’s namesake, spoke about living a life of integrity. The students also enjoyed a luncheon with their parents catered by Smokey Mo’s.
“I thought it was cool to listen to Mr. Rouse,” Taylor Ward said. “His speech was really interesting.”
