Starting Monday, Jan. 4, the school day will begin five minutes earlier due to House Bill 2610, which passed last legislative session. The bill requires 75,600 of minutes of instruction, instead of 180 days. LISD is lengthening the day by five minutes at the elementary and high school campuses.

“The five extra minutes is a slight inconvenience, but it’s not too bad,” freshman Isabella Adkisson said. “I just have to go straight to class instead of hanging out with friends in the hall.”

The high schools will begin five minutes earlier, starting at 8:40 a.m. instead of 8:45 a.m. The extra five minutes of instruction time was adding to periods overall.

The new schedule is:
8:40 – 10:02      1st/5th Period
10:08 – 11: 30    2nd/6th Period
11:36 – 12:15      Advocate
12:21 – 2:17        3rd/7th Period & Lunches
2:23 – 3:45         4th/8th Period
