Six weeks into the season and the swim team has already competed in two meets.

The team dove into the season with their first meet at Blockhouse Saturday, Sept. 12 against Leander and Meridian Charter. Even though they lost to the Lions by 13 points, the women’s team acquired 100 combined points and the men’s team had 116 combined points. Despite the loss to their biggest rival and closest friends, many individuals enjoyed the meet and went their best times in their events.

“For me, I’m not swimming against other people,” sophomore Rebecca Erlanson said. “I’m swimming against myself and the clock.”

On Thursday, Sept. 24 the team had their second meet where they competed against all 11 District 13 teams in Round Rock.

Though it was a big meet, many swimmers dropped time in their individual events and walked away pleased with their progress.

“I feel great about my time at the last meet,” freshman Maurice Narvaez said. “I especially feel good about the five seconds I dropped in the 100 free.”

Both varsity and junior varsity competed at these meets. With 39 total swimmers, the team nearly doubled in size this year, adding one more thing to the list of upgrades.

“Our team has not only expanded in size,” sophomore Cassidie Cox said. “But has improved in determination and unity. I have a feeling that we’ll excel at meets.”

The team’s next meet is Saturday, Oct. 10 against Temple HS and Leander. Though the upcoming meet is a focus, it is not the team’s main priority. For most, the priority is making it out of district to compete at regionals in January.

“I believe that our team will do very well at our next meet,” junior and team captain Dylan Ingram said. “Since we have now had more experience and are better prepared. As far as district goes, that is still awhile away, but if we keep working hard we should have no problem.”
