Awnings were added this year to the concrete bleachers to add some much needed shade at the tennis courts.

This year, the tennis courts are a little cooler.

After years of fans and players sitting in the hot sun, awnings have been added to the concrete stands. The new awnings were added the first week of school, when temperatures were still hovering in the high 90s.

The awnings now provide shade for the outdoor courts, allowing parents to watch matches more comfortably.

“I think that they were much needed,” parent Mark Wilhite said. “They give good shade for the time being.”

They also benefit the players who can sit in the shade after completing their matches or watching teammates play.

“They’re amazing,” varsity tennis player Joey Brown said. “They provide shade and keeps us cool after being in the heat for practice and games.”

Whether it be on the court or watching the fun, spectators and players are appreciating the extra shade.

“I don’t experience them as much as the players,” parent Claudia Engelman said. “But I love them.”
