The Roommate Movie Review

Directed by Christian E. Christiansen

Released Feb. 4

On a movie date where I was originally supposed to see The Green Hornet, we ended up being a little late. So, my date suggested, “why not see The Roommate?”Why not see The Roommate? I’ll tell you why.

It all starts with an ordinary dorm room. When freshman college student Sarah is introduced to her new roommate Rebecca, all seems well. Little does she know that things will quickly take a turn for the unexpected and unfortunate. Rebecca seems at first, just an ordinary teenage girl yearning to be accepted by her new roommate, but when several friends of hers come up missing and she discovers that Rebecca is psychotic and has not been taking her medication, her stomach churns. Rebecca feels that if she can’t have Sarah, then nobody can and fights quite latterly to the death.

I felt that the movie was very predictable and though it is labeled as a thriller there wasn’t much to it. I also thought that the character Sarah was not betrayed very well. Minka Kelly, playing the part of Sarah, didn’t put enough emotion into her character. Maybe it’s just me, but if I was Sarah and my Roommate was acting weird and incredibly suspicious and overprotective, it wouldn’t have taken me that long to do something about it. I would not suggest going to see this movie, unless that is, if your into creepy kitten killers. –Kennedy Woodward.
