Additonal iChoose day brings more accountability

Advocate is a little different this year concerning iChoose, with one extra day on Wednesday and more accountability on the student’s whereabouts.

“We got feedback saying that it would be important to have three days instead of two and also to have a club day,” Assistant Principal LaToya Easter said. “You can choose your own Advocate, but it helps to get clubs an opportunity to meet with as many members as they possibly can.”

In order to attend iChoose, first ask the teacher you want for iChoose for permission to attend their Advocate on the date you want. This is important because they may not be in the class that day or their class may already be full. iChoose is held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with Thursdays geared more towards club meetings.

This brings us to the second step; signing-in for Advocate. After receiving approval you will then print your name and the requested date down on the teacher’s sign-in sheet while your teacher fills out a green iChoose pass. Random slips of paper do not count as green iChoose passes and will not be accepted. You must complete this step before 10:12 a.m. the on the day you need.

“It’s to avoid students in the hallways during Advocates,” Easter said. “Also, to make a life lesson to plan ahead in college you have to be able to learn that.”

At the beginning of Advocate, you will check in with your regular Advocate teacher and have the teacher sign green pass before going to iChoose. It’s important to check in with your home Advocate so they can keep attendance.

The last step is signing in when you make it to your iChoose Advocate next to your name.

“Kids who advocate themselves maybe have more choice on where to go, for instance if they get more help on math, and it’s hard to get a teacher before or after school they have to find another way,” Easter said. “It’s a good skill to use to manage your time.”
