Jurassic World brings dinosaur franchise back with a roar
Everyone hoped that with advances in CGI, a great cast, and the return of director Steven Spielberg, that Jurassic World would live up to the legend that Jurassic Park had created. And while nothing will live up to the original, this new remake is exactly what the franchise needed to pick back up again.
Some worried about the dodgy quality of the dinos in the trailers, however in the movie, they were cleaned up and looked amazing, both the CGI ones and the animatronic ones. And for that reason I would suggest seeing this movie in 3D.
However, the dinosaurs weren’t the only thing that looked good in this movie. With the ever popular Chris Pratt playing Owen, the beautiful Bryce Dallas Howard playing Beth and even returning B. D. Wong, who played in the original Jurassic Park movies, the cast was perfectly picked.
The movie picks up 22 years after the original Jurassic Park failed, with the current park having run with success for more than a decade. But with attendance dwindling, the scientists genetically engineer a new breed of dinosaur to bring back the crowds. And in typical Jurassic movie fashion, the results are catastrophic.
While Jurassic World had a nice mix of comedy and romance, I think the action portion could have had, well, more action. The people got enough screen time, but the dinosaurs didn’t. Also, the Indominus Rex didn’t have as big of a part as I would have liked. After all the hype that the trailers and advertisement gave to the mysterious and terrifying Indominus Rex, I feel like the raptors ended up being way more important. But while Jurassic World didn’t deliver all of what was anticipated, the cast and CGI well made up for it. -Jordan Buie
