GENaustin hosting leadership camp for girls

GENaustin will host the Pathfinder Leadership Summit, Sunday, June 14 through Friday, June 19. Pathfinder is a summer camp for high school girls to learn leadership skills and how to pursue a career path. The different speakers will discuss topics like professional clothing, pubic speaking, interviewing and handling stress.

“Young women should attend the Pathfinder Leadership Summit because it will give them the tools they need outside of the academic setting to succeed in the real world,” GENaustin Special Events Coordinator Blair Stirek said. “So there is no math and science here! Just real world skills, like resume writing, budgeting, networking and so much more! We have talked with several young women, including conducting several focus groups asking what it is that they want and designed this program around just that.”

The camp costs $450 for a full-day retreat and five days of programming, along with access to an online community and volunteering opportunities. However, full scholarships are available to apply for.

“We are taking day trips to the Austin headquarters of Facebook and DELL,” Stirek said. “How cool is that? Attendees will get real world experience from some of the most influential companies in the world!”

GENaustin graphicThe camp has 40 spaces for young women, and the online application is currently open. It is a rolling application that asks some short-answer questions about the applicant’s character and personality, and it also requires a parent to sign off on it.

“We want the young women that apply to be ready and willing to learn,” Stirek said. “That is the most important thing; they don’t need to have certain skills, but definitely certain willingness.”
