STAAR testing dates & tips

Alyssa Jingling, Rumbler Staffer

Finishing the STAAR test before the time is up and just sitting there with nothing to do is almost as bad as taking the test itself. Fortunately, there are some quiet activities that won’t disturb the students testing but will still pass time.

  • Take a nap. Bring a pillow and/or a blanket, or just bunch up your hoodie to use as a pillow so you can comfortably lay your head on your desk.
  • Eat a snack. As long as the snack is not in your backpack, you can eat it after you finish testing.
  • Read a book. You are only allowed actual books, so don’t bring a magazine or homework. But those quiet hours after the test are great for catching up on that novel you haven’t had time for.
  • Stare at the wall. Read interesting posters on the walls or daydream a little. Take that extra time to relax.

Some other helpful reminders:

  • Make sure your phone is turned off and stays in your backpack. You will not be able to use it until all testing is complete, not just your room.
  • Make sure anything you want after the test, like a snack or book, is not in your backpack. You will not be able to go in your backpack during testing hours.
