Two hundred and thirty students will receive awards during the Spring Merit Award Ceremony this Friday, April 10.

“I think it’s important because you nominate kids who normally wouldn’t get picked,” RNN adviser and Professional Communications teacher Leah Sneed said. “It’s cool to have unrecognized kids get acknowledged.”

Each teacher had the opportunity to nominate at least one student based off of LISD’s 10 Ethical principles. The students will receive a signed certificate that describes why they were nominated. Sophomore Verna Batey was chosen by Art teacher Cynthia Acevedo for her tenacity and willingness to always help.

“I think it’s very nice of her,” Batey said. “Your life is a piece of art, make it your own.”
