Two doubles teams won their brackets at the Ellison Invitational, March 27-28.

Seniors Zane and Dylan Ritter won the boys doubles division, beating Waco, Ellison and Copperas Cove to reach the final. They defeated Harker Heights in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

“It was good, I pretty much expected to win,” Dylan Ritter said. “It wasn’t too hard of a tournament.”

Seniors Adrian Montes and Mary Ellen Mueller beat Ellison and Copperas Cove to advance to the mix doubles final. They won in straight sets, beating Harker Heights with 6-2, 6-2.

“It felt good because it was a tough draw and we beat some pretty difficult opponents to get to first place,” Montes said. “Me and my partner felt confident about winning but we knew it would be a challenge.”

The next home match is against Vista Ridge, April 1, and the top two doubles were both invited to play at the Westwood Invitational, April 2.

“I think it helps us prepare for districts because it allows my brother and I to be closer on the court,” Ritter said. “It allows us to think the same when we are playing tennis and obviously its good practice as well.”
