For $7, you could throw a pie in a teacher’s face and make a kid’s wish come true.

Student Council is currently collecting funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation that will go to the district’s collection efforts for 14-year old Lance White.

White, a Cedar Park middle school student was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia last September and has been undergoing chemotherapy since.

“With the family pushing so much because they care so much, maybe we’ll give Lance a bigger fund,” senior and co-head of committee senior Hannah Goff said. “We’re just trying to raise as much as we can and do fundraisers that will involve the whole school and raise awareness to everyone about it.”

More than 20 teachers have jars in their rooms to collect money, and if they receive at least $7, they will get a pie in the face, Friday, March 6 during their lunch.

“People love doing things to teachers and it generates a lot of revenue,” junior and co-head of committee Dustin Asbury said. “We couldn’t get a game in on time and the other ideas we had required more manpower and time.”

On March 6, students can purchase pies, water balloons and confetti eggs and are allowed to throw them at the certain teachers during their lunch. All proceeds will go to the fundraiser.

“It’s important to me to donate and get others to donate for leukemia lymphoma because I have seen a friend of mine go through it,” senior and co-head of committee Katie Grady said. “I know what it can do to a family. It’s important that we stand behind a kid from LISD and make an impact on his life and his family.”

In honor of their 10th year raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation, Student Council hopes to raise $10,000 for White. The district has already raised more than $2,300 through online donations.

White hasn’t decided what his wish will be yet, but it could fall into four categories: traveling or attending a major event, experiencing a career or other person’s life, meeting someone famous or receiving a special gift like a computer or tree house.

“One addition this year is that our wish kid’s family has also sent the link to his family and friends, so going online has helped us,” student council sponsor Keli McCabe said. “A lot more people are donating online and it’s just so much easier. Recently, more schools have started their own campaigns to raise money, so now it’s not just Teachers Jeans for a Week.”

As an incentive for faculty, teachers who donate are given a sticker and allowed to wear jeans for a week. Students and the school community are encouraged to donate by participating in the activities March 6, bringing donations to McCabe’s room 2214 or donating online at http://friends.wish.org/031-000/page/Keli-Mccabe/Leander-ISD-Grants-A-Wish-.htm.

“I think that it’ll bring everyone together because it is such an important cause,” Goff said. “Raising all this money for such an important thing, it brings everyone closer.”
