Junior Haley Timmons placed eighth in the 100 Fly at the 6A state swim meet at The University of Texas, Feb. 20-21.

“It was exciting to race against these new 6A girls,” Timmons said. “They’re so fast but so nice, it makes for a great competition.”

Overall, Timmons placed third in prelims to qualify for the final. In the final, Timmons finished eighth, with her third fastest time ever.

“It was a lot harder this year because we’re going against hardcore girls,” Timmons said. “These swimmers are the ones that train a lot and are going places.”

The swim team attended the meet to support Timmons, giving her a Rouse state towel. The junior also made a splash in the centerspread of the UIL state program with a large photo of her swimming the butterfly.

“The support from her Rouse family and teammates was overwhelming,” coach Kaliah Ramsey said via e-mail. “We are all so proud of her for all of hard work and accomplishments.”

This was Timmons’ third year in a row to compete at the state level.

“It was a really good season because I built back up from a hard place stronger than ever,” Timmons said. “I’m going to work on training hard and the little things that really matter.”
