Senior boys prepare to show off talents at Mr. Maroon contest

It’s time to watch the men strut their stuff. Senior guys compete for the title of Mr. Maroon, Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

“I felt like as a senior guy it was my civic duty, my duty to the school, and because it was in my destiny to be crowned Mr. Maroon 2015,” senior Matthew Kikuchi said.

The opening number, which always involves all the male contestants, features the songs “Uptown Funk,” “Going Down For Real” and Not Unusual.” They also show off their style in the formal wear competition in tuxedoes donated by Men’s Warehouse, and the talent competition features singing, dancing, poetry and instrument playing.

“I will do something not typically you’d see men do,” senior Shawn Smallets said. “You just gotta go to find out.”

The Royals and Rhythm Dance Company will also perform, and dance and theatre teachers Jennifer Bussear and Stephanie Smith will emcee again. This is the fourth annual Mr. Maroon show.

“It’s a great show because it brings a lot of different groups together,” Royals Director Amy McKee said. “We have choir, band and theatre students and athletes, it’s nice to see them all come together.”

Tickets are $8 in advance and can be purchased from a Royal, and will be available for $10 at the door. There will also be a silent auction.
